Nearby

It’s a 5-minute walk (inland direction) into Burnham Market, centred around a village green and with a little bit of everything from fancy hat shops to bakeries and delis. For most other attractions you’ll, no doubt, be heading towards the coast. To the west is a handful of nature reserves – notably RSPB Titchwell Marshes and Holme Dunes National Nature Reserve, the latter enjoyably reached via a coastal walk from Thornham – while, just east of the campsite, it takes less than 5 minutes to drive to Burnham Overy Staithe. The harbour village looks out over a maize of mud-flats that can be walked (and slid across by muddy children) at low tide, taking you out towards Scolt Head Island. There are some good swimming holes here too. At high tide, watch locals launch their sailing boats or bring a canoe of your own. It’s a 10-minute drive to Holkham Hall (01328 713111). The expansive grounds are great for families (bikes available to hire) and there are excellent tours of the farm and estate. Holkham Beach has rather pricy parking but is worth it – the beach is vast and backed by acres of woodland, with a wonderful walk from here to Wells-next-the-Sea. Finish with fish and chips on Wells’ quay. Look at the swimming tips and tide times on our website. Or take the coastal bus from Burnham Market.

Food & Drink

The nearest restaurants are in Burnham Market. The Hoste (01328 738777) is particularly popular, while The Lord Nelson (01328 738321) is more affordable and 10 minutes walk from the church. Heading towards the coast and Overy Staithe brings you to The Hero (01328 738334), which has more of a countryside feel. There are plenty of delis in Burnham market, too, though, if you follow the coast road, you'll generally come across plenty of delis and shops – notabley The Crab Shed (01485 525369) in Brancaster Staithe, Thornham Deli (01485 512194) in Thornham and Gurneys Fish Shop (01328 738967) with Humble Pie deli above it,in Burnham Market.  For good pizza, The Jolly Sailors in Brancaster Staithe (01485 210314) has an excellent family menu and a pleasant beer garden in summer. For views, bagging a table outside or in the conservatory of The White Horse (01485 210262), also in Brancaster Staithe, is tough to beat, though it's pricey.
