Nearby
As the name suggests, the campsite is beside the Midshires Way long distance walking trail (some 230 miles in length) and forms a popular stopping point for ramblers along the route. Since it takes 10–15 minutes to walk into East Leake, walkers are well served for amenities too – there’s a CoOp supermarket, a range of cafés and eateries and takeaways that deliver to the campsite. There’s also a decent leisure centre (01509 852956) for rainy days, with a pool, badminton, tennis, a gym and more. Elsewhere, it’s a 15-minute drive into the market town of Loughborough (market days are Thursday and Saturday), where you can take tours of Taylor's Foundry (01509 212241), an impressive museum displaying bells dating back to 1785, or ride aboard steam trains on the Great Central Railway (01509 632323). It’s 25 minutes into the centre of Nottingham and 30 minutes or so into Leicester, where the National Space Centre (0116 261 0261) is a particularly time-consuming rainy day activity.
Food & Drink
There are four pubs within walking distance in East Leake, The Round Robin (0115 778 8168), which is a micro pub, being our pick of the bunch, as well as the newly refurbished and extremely popular Bulls Head. The Nags Head is very popular offering a great range of beers. The Star Inn (01509 856480), a country pub in the opposite direction (25-minute walk). All the pubs in East Leake welcome dogs.
