The Owner Says

Our Tents

These 5 metre deluxe bell tents are fabulously roomy.  At 12' high in the centre, there's plenty of wiggle room, and with a massive 5 metre diameter, they provide a palatial pad for two, a perfect nest for a couple's retreat, plentiful room for a family of four with still enough space for 5, for larger groups and families.

If you're new to bell tent camping, the benefits are not just in size.  Camping under natural cotton canvas is a completely different experience to the standard polyester tent to sleep in.  No waking up feeling parched and sweaty....The breathable nature of the material, together with the four big vents the tents have, means you are actually sleeping in the fresh air. The vents and the main door have a separate bug screen, allowing the air to circulate through the tent, which all in all is very conducive to a good night's rest. To keep your cosy tent comfortable inside throughout your stay, we've provided a large bell tent awning, creating a shelter for boots, cooking, and maybe some star gazing. as well as an in tent log burner!! Now you can enjoy the changing seasons and then warm your toes in front of the fire!!

Inside

There'll be a double or single bed configuration, whatever you need for your group.  The double beds (with proper mattresses!) and single camp beds are made up with duvets and pillows with 100% cotton sheets and pillow cases.

Each tent will have one fixed double bed with a proper mattress and then up to 3 single camp beds...all with duvets, pillows and linen....(max 2 adults 3 children)

There are apple crates to use as bed side tables, or a centre table or storage, and cushions.  An led hurricane lamp is supplied with either a winder, researchable batteries or solar power. A trunk has been placed in each tent and given a new use as a cool box come table.  There is a freezer on site for changing the cool packs over. Spare blankets will be supplied for those cooler nights.

Outside

There's a picnic table for each tent, a fire pit / BBQ, jam jars and tea lights.  Fire starting kit and some wood for the first night supplied.  More can be picked up from the honesty shop. There is a washing up area near the tents with running water and washing up liquid.

Kitchen box - Each tent will be provided with a fire pit which also doubles up as a BBQ, for your culinary camping  creations.  Keeping it stylish, there will also be a crate of vintage inspired cooking and dining ware,  as follows... enamel dining ware, plate, bowl and mug for each person,  cooking pots, frying pan, kettle, tea/coffee pot, spatula, wooden spoons, serving spoons, masher, sieve, tea/coffee strainer, bottle opener (an important one), can opener, cutlery, scourer, tea towels. If we've forgotten anything, please let us know. There will also be a box of basic pantry essentials....oil, salt, pepper and sugar.

Honesty shop - Situated in the field shelter at Mannington and at the entrance to the field at Wiveton,  for things you may need for  your stay - kindling, logs, charcoal, cooking gas, matches, candles... etc!

Nearby

If you go back down the entrance track you pop out onto a quiet lane that was once a Roman road and now forms part of the Peddars Way, a 50-mile-long trail that runs from Thetford and the centre of Norfolk out to the coast (where it joins the Norfolk Coast Path). It’s about 14 miles to this confluence at Holme (just under half an hour by car) but the whole stretch of coastline around that area is beautiful and diverse. If you want big sandy beaches, try Brancaster or Holkham Bay. If you fancy spotting wildlife, try Titchwell, Blakeney, Cley or Morston Quay. If you want history try Sandringham or Holkham Hall (or, nearest, and en-route to the coast, Houghton Hall). The handy thing about the curvature of Norfolk’s coastline is that most seaside spots are pretty much equidistant from the glamping site. It’s not all about the coast, though. There’s a nice walk from your bell tent over the fields to the pub in Great Massingham, a picturesque village with two duck ponds, and English Heritage-owned Castle Acre Priory (0370 333 1181) is just a 10-minute drive away.

Food & Drink

It takes about 15 minutes to cycle or 45 minutes to walk to the Dabbling Duck (01485 520827) overlooking the village green in Great Massingham. It’s a well-named pub given the village’s picturesque pair of duck ponds, which always have plenty of feathered occupants, and it’s a fine spot for an evening meal or a pint. A tad further, but in the direction of the coast, the Rose & Crown (01485 521807) is another fabulous option, with a slightly more off-the-beaten track feel. While, out on the coast, the village of Thornham has a range of options, from good gastro pubs to a nice deli, a farm shop, fish’n’chips and even a café in a Mongolian yurt.
