The Owner Says

Bustard Hut started life as a hay-trailer on the farm, and has been lovingly converted into a family cabin. Secluded at the bottom of our meadow and surrounded by woodland, Bustard hut is perfect for young adventurers! The king-size bed with panoramic views across the fields offers a bit of luxury for mum and dad, and the sturdy bunk-bed is a hit with the kids. The kitchenette has all you need with a fridge, electric hob and microwave. The bathroom is also en-suite with a shower. Seating/dining areas are provided both inside and outside. Bustard has a large elevated deck to the side that overlooks our private woodland (perfect for den building), and additionally there is a firepit/BBQ area plus wood-fird Hot Tub (surcharge applies). All linen and towels are provided along with unlimited firewood and marshmallows! No Wifi but the phone signal is very good if you're not ready for a digital detox.

Nearby

- History:

Stonehenge is just around the corner, and a walk around our grounds alone will take you past 5000 year-old earthworks and burial mounds. Just last year a hoard of bronze-age axe-heads was found in one of our fields.

- Walking:

There's brilliant walking trails from the farm, taking you to the farm shop or two local pubs; The Crown and The Malet. In the wider area there are some world-class hikes to be discovered, taking in the famous white-horses of the Ridgeway, Avebury and Wansdyke to the north, or the New-Forest with it's wild ponies to the south.

- Culture:

We are ideally placed for the cities of Bath, Salisbury, Winchester and Oxford and all that they have to offer. Easily accessible by train or car.

- Swimming:

There's local wild swimming spots (although we always strongly recommend the Fallen Willow Sauna and Wild Swimming spot nearby) and also Bournemouth and Studland beaches within easy reach for a day-trip.

- Families:

Moors Valley Country Park, Mottisfont, Poultons Park (Peppa Pig World!) and Winchester Science Museum are all superb family days out and within easy reach.

- Country Sports:

Our chalk-stream area is a world-famous fishing destination, and we offer an excellent base for fly-fishing enthusiasts with space to store rods. We also have two polo clubs within a 15 minute drive, offering lessons and a unique experience for those that have never sat on a horse, to experienced riders.

Food & Drink

- The Malet Arms is a beautiful 40 minute walk away through the Estate (or 5 minute drive). It's a traditional Pub with a roaring fire, kitchen garden and locally sourced menu, and we always recommend it. It is also dog and family friendly.

- Bluestone Vineyard and Black Chalk both have award winning wines and tasting rooms.

- Stockbridge is a great option for delis, coffee and light lunches; we like Meadow and Thyme & Tides.

We send a guidebook to all guests ahead of their stay with a more extensive list of food options.
