Nearby
A gentle 15‑minute stroll downhill brings you to the historic fishing village of Polperro. Here you’ll find the Polperro Heritage Museum which celebrates the area’s smuggling and fishing past, along with a Model Village , independent shops, and plenty of pubs and cafés.
Looe lies four miles away—about a 10‑minute drive or a picturesque boat ride from Polperro harbour. This lively fishing port offers more shops and eateries, the compact Old Guildhall Museum & Gaol and a broad, family‑friendly sandy beach. From East Looe you can also sail across to Looe Island Nature Reserve (01872 273939).
Close by you’ll find Porfell Wildlife Park six miles from the site. The nearest beach is at Talland Bay, a 10‑minute drive away, and the South West Coast Path from Looe to Polperro—passing Talland—ranks among the area’s finest coastal walks.
For thrill‑seekers, Adrenalin Quarry (11 miles; 01579 308204) offers zip‑wires, go‑karting, and an aqua park. Further afield, but still within an hour’s drive of West Kellow Yurts, are Cornwall’s headline attractions: the Eden Project (01726 438003) and the Lost Gardens of Heligan (01726 845100).
Food & Drink
The on‑site kitchen makes self‑catering straightforward, and you can pick up the day’s catch at Kittys on the quayside, just a 15‑minute walk away. There’s a small corner shop for essentials, but for a broader shop head to the Premier store in Pelynt (two miles), which also houses an award‑winning butcher. Larger supermarkets are in Liskeard, or you could detour to Tredinnick Farm Shop (six miles; 01503 240 992) for local produce and a café famed for its full English breakfasts. Host Matt also recommends the Smugglers Rest Café at Talland (01503 272 259) and The Blue Peter in Polperro. In Polperro you’ll find further options such as The three Pilchards, Pricillas, Al Freshco and Turntable Pizza. Neighbouring Looe, four miles away, offers even more choice, including The Ship Inn (01503 263 124) or Ye Old Salutation Inn (01503 262 784).
