Grass Pitch Only (No Car Parking Space) (21 at Fieldhead Campsite)
UK England East Midlands Derbyshire Edale Fieldhead Campsite
The Owner Says
One standard non-electric grass tent pitch only with no car parking. If you would like to book a pitch with a car parking space in our car park, please select ‘Grass Pitch & Car Parking Space’. If this option is not visible, this means we have run out of car parking spaces for the selected dates. For alternative parking, Edale has a 24hr council-run car park, just five-minute’s walk down the road.
These pitches are suitable for tents up to 5 metres in length and accommodate a maximum of 5 people. One tent per pitch - please select 'Book Several Units' to add multiple pitches to your booking. If you need assistance with this, do let us know. For 6 berth tents and over, or those exceeding 5 metres in length, please add the extra called ‘Large Tent’, on the page before checkout.
Upon arrival you will be allocated a pitch on one of our five quiet fields. We have two 'upper' fields; one adjacent to the campsite office and facilities, fringed with woodland and facing Kinder Scout. The other has magnificent views looking South over to Mam Tor and Back Tor. For an even more tranquil and immersive stay, our 'lower' fields are accessed via a ramp and run parallel to Grinds Brook, a charming and gentle stream. We have wheelbarrows to help you transport your belongings.
Our site is ideally situated for hikers, cyclists and those arriving via public transport. Fieldhead is halfway along Mary’s Lane, just a five-minute walk from Edale railway station. A further five minutes along the road brings you to the end of the village and the start of the Pennine Way national trail. We’re lucky to have some fantastic local amenities, all within a five-minute walking radius of our site; The Nag’s Head Pub, The Rambler Inn, Penny Pot Café, Newfold Farm Café and Edale General Store.
A few important things to note for Fieldhead first-timers:
- BBQs and campfires are not permitted, but gas-powered stoves are welcome.
- We’re a quiet site, with no amplified music or excessive noise between 10pm and 7am.
- Arrivals are from 2pm–8pm, and check-out is by 10am, unless you’ve pre-arranged and paid for early arrival or late check-out.
- Showers are coin-operated and take 20p coins for 2 minutes of hot water. If you’re travelling light or short on change, shower tokens are available from the campsite office via card payment or can be pre-booked for collection on arrival. Tokens are £1 for 10 minutes.
- Our facilities include indoor washing-up sinks (with bowls and free washing-up liquid) and a shared fridge/freezer in The Bothy. We recommend storing food in sealed containers and keeping it inside your tent, as our resident squirrels are prone to thievery!
- We have portable chargers available to hire for a small daily fee. However, mobile phone signal is very hit and miss here - so it's a great opportunity for a technology detox!
- We stock a small range of basic camping equipment for sale in our campsite office. We also have plenty of spare essentials, including pegs!
- Luggage storage can be pre-arranged for use before, during and after your stay. We offer outdoor storage boxes in two sizes (190L and 350L), each with its own padlock, available to hire for a small daily fee.
- Unfortunately, we’re unable to accommodate large family or friend group bookings. To keep the site peaceful, we have a maximum of five adults or two families together. If you’re part of an organised group (such as a walking group or DofE), please contact us to discuss your requirements.

About Fieldhead Campsite
Suitable For
Fieldhead Campsite is a small, 45-pitch, tent-only campsite set in the heart of Edale village within the Peak District National Park. We offer unmarked grass pitches spread across five small fields, creating a relaxed and spacious feel. There are no electric hook-ups.
The site is particularly well suited to walkers, cyclists, climbers and those travelling light, as well as anyone looking for a quiet base to enjoy the outdoors at a slower pace. We are situated just a five-minutes stroll from Edale train station, which gives you easy access to some wonderful locations in the Hope Valley. Fieldhead is very popular with solo hikers. We are also a dog-friendly campsite and welcome up to two well-behaved pooches per pitch.
To protect the peaceful atmosphere, we are not able to accommodate large family or friend groups. Duke of Edinburgh and other organised groups are welcome but must contact us directly before booking.
We have a very small on-site car park. If you wish to bring a car, a car parking space must be booked in advance. Larger campervans and motorhomes may be accommodated in the car park during quieter periods, by prior arrangement only.
Nearby
Fieldhead Campsite makes an excellent base for outdoor adventures. Sitting at the foot of Kinder Scout and the start (or Southern end) of the Pennine Way national trail, the area is a favourite with walkers. For thrill seekers, well-known climbing areas such as Stanage Edge, Millstone Edge and Burbage are only a short drive or train journey away. Ladybower Reservoir is popular for water sports in the Summer, and bikes can be hired from Fairholmes to explore the valley on two wheels.
If you’re not feeling adventurous, the campsite itself is a peaceful place to relax - listen to the river, watch the wildlife, or simply enjoy the quiet. Nearby villages Hope and Hathersage offer cafés and local shops to browse. Over the hill, Castleton boasts a medieval keep and no less than four show caverns. Grander days out can be enjoyed in the towns of Bakewell, Buxton or Matlock, all within easy reach via car. Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are popular excursions, with their historical buildings and vast grounds.
Food & Drink
Edale has several welcoming places to eat and drink, all within easy walking distance of the campsite. The village pubs - The Old Nag’s Head and The Rambler’s Inn - are both popular spots for hearty food and well-earned refreshments after a day on the hills. For cafés, Penny Pot Café and Newfold Farm Café are ideal for coffee, cake or light meals. Newfold Farm also has a small general store for essentials.
