About Fieldhead Campsite
Suitable For
Fieldhead Campsite is a small, 45-pitch, tent-only campsite set in the heart of Edale village within the Peak District National Park. We offer unmarked grass pitches spread across five small fields, creating a relaxed and spacious feel. There are no electric hook-ups.
The site is particularly well suited to walkers, cyclists, climbers and those travelling light, as well as anyone looking for a quiet base to enjoy the outdoors at a slower pace. We are situated just a five-minutes stroll from Edale train station, which gives you easy access to some wonderful locations in the Hope Valley. Fieldhead is very popular with solo hikers. We are also a dog-friendly campsite and welcome up to two well-behaved pooches per pitch.
To protect the peaceful atmosphere, we are not able to accommodate large family or friend groups. Duke of Edinburgh and other organised groups are welcome but must contact us directly before booking.
We have a very small on-site car park. If you wish to bring a car, a car parking space must be booked in advance. Larger campervans and motorhomes may be accommodated in the car park during quieter periods, by prior arrangement only.
Nearby
Fieldhead Campsite makes an excellent base for outdoor adventures. Sitting at the foot of Kinder Scout and the start (or Southern end) of the Pennine Way national trail, the area is a favourite with walkers. For thrill seekers, well-known climbing areas such as Stanage Edge, Millstone Edge and Burbage are only a short drive or train journey away. Ladybower Reservoir is popular for water sports in the Summer, and bikes can be hired from Fairholmes to explore the valley on two wheels.
If you’re not feeling adventurous, the campsite itself is a peaceful place to relax - listen to the river, watch the wildlife, or simply enjoy the quiet. Nearby villages Hope and Hathersage offer cafés and local shops to browse. Over the hill, Castleton boasts a medieval keep and no less than four show caverns. Grander days out can be enjoyed in the towns of Bakewell, Buxton or Matlock, all within easy reach via car. Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall are popular excursions, with their historical buildings and vast grounds.
Food & Drink
Edale has several welcoming places to eat and drink, all within easy walking distance of the campsite. The village pubs - The Old Nag’s Head and The Rambler’s Inn - are both popular spots for hearty food and well-earned refreshments after a day on the hills. For cafés, Penny Pot Café and Newfold Farm Café are ideal for coffee, cake or light meals. Newfold Farm also has a small general store for essentials.
