Nearby
There’s no end to the coastal activities on offer in this stretch of the south west, and many can be arranged directly with Livit Adventures. You’re in safe hands with Mark and Meagan –- both are qualified surf instructors and beach lifeguards. The South West Coast Path can be picked up a mere 10 mins from the site, while the Blue Flag beaches of North Devon and North Cornwall lay within easy reach. Westward Ho!, with its long white-sand beach popular with surfers and kitesurfers, is only 10 minutes away. Idyllic Clovelly is about 20 minutes away, a historical fishing town notable for its steep, car-free cobbled main street and industrious resident donkeys, the only transport permitted. Admission to the village is priced at £7.50 for adults; £4.50 for children and guided tours can be arranged. Around 45 mins away you’ll find Bude, with its welcoming golden sands, pastel-coloured beach huts and (allegedly) the best Cornish pasties in the south west. A similar distance, Saunton Sands and Croyde Bay are excellent for surfing – the former is ideal for all abilities while the latter’s gnarly waves are more suited to the more experienced. Lundy Island beckons across the water from your bell tent – book a day trip across on the Lundy Island ferry (01271 863636). Golfers can enjoy the course at Royal North Devon Golf Club (01237 473817) – England’s oldest – while the North Devon Wake Park (07956 009047), The Big Sheep, and The Milky Way (01237 431255) offer fun for all the family.
Food & Drink
The onsite outdoor kitchen serves delicious homemade pizza on Saturday evenings and simple breakfast sandwiches and bagels are available at the weekend. Local produce – including the farm’s own free-range eggs, sausages, bacon, and burgers – is available from the campsite farmhouse, along with ice creams, cold drinks, sweets, and other essentials, from Easter to October half-term. For the big shop, there are supermarkets in Bideford. Pub-wise, the nearest is The Thatched Inn (01237 471321) – a lovely traditional watering hole within walking distance in Abbotsham. A fixture of the community for the past 400 years, its picturesque walled garden makes it a perfect spot to while away the day. You haven't tried a real traditional Devon cream tea until you have been to Tea on the Green (01237 429406) and ordered their famous giant scones. Located in the center of Westward Ho!, this multi-award-winning eatery serves amazing cream teas (named after Hollywood legends), doorstop sandwiches, delicious cakes, and a deluxe hot chocolate to die for.
