The Owner Says

Set across more than two acres of unspoilt countryside, exclusive hire of Heart of the Wye offers a peaceful retreat where nature and togetherness sit at the heart of every stay. With no other guests on site, your group can slow down, switch off, and enjoy the space entirely as your own.

The site features five well spaced yurts, each furnished with a comfortable double bed and the option to add up to two single fold out beds, making them ideal for families of up to four. Each yurt is positioned to offer a sense of privacy while still feeling part of the wider site.

Outside each yurt is a private fire pit, a simple kitchenette with hob and griddle plate, and covered seating. These spaces are perfect for quiet mornings, relaxed afternoons, and evenings spent cooking and talking around the fire.

At the centre of the site is a larger communal fire pit with log seating which naturally brings everyone together for shared moments, storytelling, and stargazing. Your stay includes exclusive use of all shared facilities including three showers and three toilets, as well as a modern communal kitchen with hob cooking facilities, microwave, kettle, toaster, and two undercounter fridges.

New for 2026 and not pictured, guests will also have access to a flexible communal building designed for both relaxation and spending time together. This space will include a pool table, indoor and outdoor dining for up to 20 people, and a comfortable lounge area with board games. A large Weber gas grill is also included, making it easy to cook and eat together outdoors.

Heart of the Wye is a place to reconnect with nature, with the people you are sharing it with, and with a slower pace of life. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions for full details relating to group and exclusive hire before booking.

About Heart of the Wye

Suitable For

We love animals, so we have 2 dedicated pet friendly tents (2 dogs maximum per booking).  It is worth noting that we have livestock on our smallholding so all pets must be kept on a lead at all times when outside the tent.
Heart of the Wye is a peaceful and relaxed retreat where many of our guests like to unwind by the fire, read a good book and get an early night before enjoying days filled with local activities. As such, as a general rule, we do not allow groups to book.  However, if you are interested in booking the whole site, for a quiet and peaceful getaway, please feel free to email or phone us to discuss it further.
All bookings must be accompanied by an adult 21 or over.
The site is not currently wheelchair accessible, however we are in the planning stages to ensure that our site is inclusive in the near future.

Nearby

We are situated in the small village of Clifford, just outside of the world famous book town: Hay on Wye.  The site itself is a smallholding, where guests can walk around, play games and meet our pet sheep, cats and chickens.

There are some interesting walks from the site along the foot paths through fields and down to the river Wye.  Hay is about a 50 minute walk, but a 5 minute drive, and an affordable taxi ride (about £10).  We highly recommend exploring the Brecon Beacons, with Brecon itself less than 30mins drive.  The larger historical town of Hereford is about 35 minutes from our site.

There are many attractions in the area, perfect for couples or groups of all ages.  In particular the area is popular amongst walkers, cyclists, canoeists and kayakers.  I especially love to shop the independent stores in Hay, where books and antiques are the order of the day.  Every Thursday throughout the year, Hay is host to a gorgeous market with stalls selling everything from local produce and arts and crafts.

After many years of being shut to the public, Hay Castle has had a huge refurbishment and will be opening its doors again in May.  Inside, there will be a café and function rooms as well as (and we are particularly excited about this) a state of the art gallery space for touring exhibitions.

Food & Drink

We are very fortunate to have one of Hay on Wye's best dining experiences 'Off Grid Gourmet' onsite.  This is extremely popular, and people come from all over to experience it.  We highly recommend booking early to get a reservation.

Off site, we have a long list of amazing places to eat and drink with in 5 miles to suit all budgets.  Most are in Hay, but there are some good pubs with a great river view such as The Boat which is just on the other side of Whitney Bridge (less than 5 mins drive).
For a special occasion, Chapters in Hay provide a superb tasting menu and will cater for all food preferences.  They change the menu every 6 weeks and are extremely popular, so worth getting in touch well before your stay. Hay's other popular restaurant Tomatito's has fantastic tapas dishes and suits a smaller budget (at around £4-5 per dish), my absolute favourite being the honey aubergine fries.  Burger fans will love The Globe in Hay, which also doubles up as a live music venue most weekends.  We have eaten a couple of times at the Old Black Lion, and have had some great food there, plus the servers were very friendly.  There are also a selections of takeaway restaurants to choose from, we love Origin Pizza on a Saturday.

Breakfast and lunch in hay is easy and delicious. I recommend grabbing a coffee from the small hatch at the 'cosy café' giving you time to consider your many options.  The Granary do all kinds of cooked breakfasts, and for lunch I loved their healthy Buddha bowl full of fresh veg.  Also check out Oscar's Bistro for yummy sandwiches and jacket potatoes and other cooked lunches.  How could you not follow this up with an ice-cream from 'Shepherds Parlour'?

There are also some great drinking establishments in Hay.  The Three Tuns has a small but lively pub feel, and The Blue Boar is cosy with a cute garden area.  Right in the centre of town is  The Kilverts Inn, perfect to people watch out the front of the pub.  Newly opened in town is the Hay Distillery where local gin (and other drinks) can be enjoyed in a cocktail onsite or bought as gifts or to imbibe later back at your tent.

There are so many places to eat and drink in and near Hay.  if you give us a call, we are happy to help you find the best place for you and your party.
