Milne's Corner (1 at Peake's Retreats)
UK England West Midlands Staffordshire Burton upon Trent Peake's Retreats
The Owner Says
Tucked in its own peaceful corner of our yurt field, Milne’s Corner is the perfect escape for couples craving romance, families wanting a back-to-nature adventure, or anyone dreaming of switching off and slowing down. Inspired by the gentle charm of A.A. Milne, the interior is decorated as we imagine he would have created a cosy writing retreat: warm, nostalgic, full of natural textures, and lit by soft fairy lights.
This is true glamping – closer to camping than the flashy “luxury lodges” found elsewhere. There’s no electricity in the yurt itself, meaning evenings are spent with lantern light, a crackling woodburner, and the sounds of the countryside drifting through the trees. But with modern comforts woven in (private bathrooms, a shared fully-equipped cooking cabin, optional private hot tub), you get the perfect balance of rustic and romantic.
Inside the roomy 6-metre yurt, you’ll find a king-size bed. 2 single beds are also available for bookings with 3 or 4 guests. The woodburner heats the yurt beautifully, most guests are shocked by how cosy it becomes, even in the depths of winter. Logs and kindling can be added to your booking or you’re welcome to bring your own kiln-dried wood.
Optional private wood-fired hot tubIf you’d like to elevate your stay, you can add our wood-fired hot tub for as many nights as you’d like. Each night you book includes a full fresh water fill & a crate of logs ready for you to heat it to the perfect temperature. Surrounded by open countryside and big Staffordshire skies, it’s a magical way to soak under the stars. (hot tub priced at £50 per night, only pay for what you use)
Private outdoor spaceOutside, Milne’s Corner has its own private decking and seating, plus a beautiful Kadai firebowl perfect for BBQs or slow evenings by the flames. The yurt sits just steps from fields, hedgerows, and walking routes, giving you that tucked-away, countryside-immersed feeling while still being close to everything you need.
Your own private bathroomsGuests staying at Milne’s Corner have two private bathrooms—a shower room and a separate WC—just a short walk away. No sharing with other guests and no queuing
Shared cooking cabinA short stroll across the field brings you to our shared but spacious cooking cabin. Milne’s Corner has access to its own private fridge, and guests can make use of the electric range cooker with induction hob, plus pots, pans, utensils, and all the essentials you need to prepare meals during your stay.
Alternatively you can grab the pots you need and cook on your woodburning stove inside your yurt. Theres something about making a cup of tea in the morning that's been heated by a roaring fire inside your woodturner.
Extra guest favouritesAll guests can enjoy:
• Use of the Finnish BBQ hut – a gorgeous, atmospheric space for grilling, storytelling and long evenings
• Optional extras including logs, kindling, robes, prosecco and celebratory touches you can add at checkout
A Staffordshire countryside escapeMilne’s Corner is ideally located between Burton-on-Trent and Ashbourne, with easy access to rolling countryside, woodland walks, rural footpaths and traditional pubs.

Suitable For
Glamping only. So no tents, campervans or caravans. Pets welcome.Nearby
Peake's Retreats is 12 miles from Ashbourne, an old market town that is considered the gateway to the Peak District. From here there are a wealth of good walks in the White Peak Area (the lower, southern half of the Peak District), including in the excellent Dovedale National Nature Reserve (01335 350503). The most popular route is to walk from National Trust-owned Ilam Park (01335 350503) to the Stepping Stones which takes you right along the bank of the River Dove for most of the route. Those on two wheels, meanwhile can take to the Tissington trail – a well-known cycle trail and bridle path which runs from Ashbourne to Parsley Hay (13 miles; traffic free). In the opposite direction, it's 4 miles from Peake's Retreats to the brewing town of Burton Upon Trent, famous for Bass beer. Here you'll find The National Brewing Museum (01283 532880) along with plenty of bars and restaurants and some well known high street shops. There are also some lovely walks around the river Trent. For families, it is a 5-minute drive from The National Forest Adventure Farm (01283 533933), a 30-minute drive to Alton Towers (0871 222 3330) and a 40-minute drive to the Monkey Forest (01782 659845) at Trentham, where you can also find a selection of boutique shops and have a wander around the beautiful gardens.Food & Drink
It's a 20-minute walk or a 2-minute drive down the road to The Bell Inn (01283 812838), a modern pub with large beer garden, but for something special it's worth the 15-minute drive to The Swan at Walton (01283 712 378) – a proper gastro pub with excellent cocktails and proclaiming itself "a permanent beer festival", owing to its wide range of real ales. The Bull in Repton (01283 704422; 20 minutes) is also excellent – a traditional Victorian ale inn with a creative gastro menu and wood-fired pizza oven. Or you can order one of the BBQ meat hampers available from Peake’s Retreats and sourced from local butchers.Extras
